Nestled in the heart of Park Cities, Preston center has become a booming culinary expansion for the Dallas tastebuds to savor. A mainstay of this chock-full shopping center is Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen. Headed up by Dallas Chef giant Kent Rathbun, Blue Plate serves as a comfy ‘localized’ tribute to the residents of Dallas and our love for all things Southern. The fixins are hearty and the devotion to warming the soul through each plate is strong, and now the spotlight shifts to a Dallas favorite…Brunch. You’d expect nothing less from Chef Rathbun than an all out ‘y’all and yes’m’ assault on your palate. I was invited in to try out some of the brunch items up to delight and that they did.
No mid morning meal is complete without a cocktail to kick off right? We were treated to a brunch cocktail that was made up of champagne, raspberry and orange citrus flavors. A delightful wake up before a ultra savory brunch. Of course we couldn’t go without trying one of Blue Plate’s signature Bloody Mary cocktails as well. A kick of spice and a tomato juice companion, as it should be.

A word to the wise about brunch, don’t take lightly. A two egg white scrambled with a side of slightly sautéed veggies and a slice of wheat toast won’t cut it. If you’re really feeling the fun from nights before, I’ll advise you to heed my regards and fill yourself with a hearty meal. Or stick with the skinny and feel the pain. Kidding.
Rathbun brings his southern flare, reminiscent of a perfectly planned family Sunday gathering to his Brunch menu. You’d feel as though the nice plates and silverware were laid out in worship of the tastes and aromas, that fill the room as the brunch table fills. No meal at Blue Plate is complete without daily bread and butter selections. We were treated to strawberry butter on my visit but word is that the butter changes daily. I dig.

Onto the main attractions. Feast your eyes (and soon your sense of taste) on the most glorious Brunch Dallas has come to know. Yes, I know those are debatable words, but those who beg to differ have not known the saving power of a Rathbun Brunch plate. I give you example A, Gramma Minnie’s Country Fried Chicken with a Buttermilk Waffle, Maple Syrup and Molasses Gravy. I near fainted when the dish arrived at our table, much less when I tasted it. Minnie, dear Minnie, you imposed your knowledge of perfectly fried chicken onto Chef Rathbun who has imparted it upon us. And for that, bless you. Knowing chicken and waffles the way that I do, its a composed bite of chicken, waffle, syrup and ooh that gravy.

Not done with you yet. For example b of the saving power of this staple Brunch I give you Pigs In a Blanket with warm buttered Buttermilk Pancakes and House Smoked Pulled Pork. I compel you, release yourself of the thought have having breakfast weiners wrapped inside a dry, frozen pancake. These stacked Pigs in a Blanket had a richness level that balanced out between the pancake, bbq pulled pork and a sweet syrup drizzle. It was a fascinating take on a classic that had me spellbound in a food coma soon after, but I liked it.

New Brunch spots may be popping up left and right. Bars want to lure you for Brunch, hours after you closed your tab at the same place. I ask you to make a visit into Rathbuns Blue Plate Kitchen and experience the hospitality, love, and hangover or not lovers cuisine. Just save room for more…

The burger at Rathbun’s Blue Plate is the best in Dallas. It is wood smoked for amazing flavor, fries are fresh, not frozen.
