Origin Dallas Feeds Early Bird, Lunch Crowd Cravings

The newest restaurant to hit upper McKinney Ave, Origin Kitchen + Bar, has set its sights on the breakfast and lunch circuit. Having reopened just about a month ago, owners Jess and Russell are seeing a successful start. Now that they’ve had a couple of weeks under their belt, the couple is ramping up their lunch and breakfast game. The 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. breakfast and lunch menu will offer a seated, full service atmosphere but still the option to grab coffee and food to go at the bar.

The expanded breakfast and lunch menu now includes items such as omelets, pancakes, signature salads and sandwiches.  The menus feature local favorites such as Windy Meadows Farm chicken, Vital Farms eggs and Bastrop Cattle Company grass fed beef. Bowls, burgers and more fill the ‘good for you’ centric menu and it was exciting to see such an assortment of healthy and local options on the menu.

Beginning with a strong kick of caffeine, we ordered up a latte and an espresso to get things in gear. Their handcrafted coffee bar was the focus of business in the prior space, and that attention to detail in the brewing and serving process has been perfected even now.

One of my favorite parts about their offerings is that you can get breakfast until 2pm. Who doesn’t love a late breakfast of champions, especially on a weekday into weekend lunch outing? I know I do. So we decided on lunch AND breakfast. I went with the Seasonal Hash Bowl which includes sweet potato, apple, bacon, toasted pumpkin seed and two eggs your way. The fluffy eggs came scrambled to perfection and sided with the hash that I added chicken to. Crispy bits of bacon paired with sweet apple and potato make this bowl of goodness a real winner. Fills you up in the best way possible, no guilt here. We also tried “The Roadie” sandwich made up of Pastured Chicken, Pan Fried Brie, Avocado, Chipotle tomato pesto on sourdough. Fried brie, y’all. This bite of savory, cheesy happiness made my world go round. Again, not too heavy or overpowering when paired with light as air sourdough and avocado. This sandwich is a perfect choice and you get your choice of side, today sweet potato fries won.
