It’s not an easy task to go to eat at a steakhouse with health(ier) resolutions in mind. That’s what I challenged myself to do recently when I stopped into Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in Addison. Knowing full well that many steakhouse meals can be an indulgence for the appetite, I went in with an open mind and a scouring eye.
The location is legendary for it’s service and cuisine. With tenured servers who have been at the restaurant since day 1 in 1991, the level of attention and detail to the meal is perfected at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House. So, with that in mind, I began to pick the brains of the staff to see which items they felt were fit for a resolution friendly meal.
We began with the Sesame-Seared Tuna with a Soy Ginger Glaze & Wasabi Cream. The perfectly crispy outside of the tuna paired with the creamy wasabi sauce was the perfect light bite the begin our meal. Fresh, flavorful and not the least bit fishy. We also tried the Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell which came with the traditional mignonette and horseradish cocktail sauces. Juicy, huge oysters were an excellent complement to the spicy sauces.
Next, we split (see, sharing is a GREAT way to feel good about the steak you might have coming) the Tomato salad with a tiny amount of crisp bacon and dressing which you can order on the side. To match this salad, we also shared one of their famous Crab Cakes with Cajun Lobster Sauce. Yum!
Now, here’s were the real fun comes in. I couldn’t come to a 20 something year old steakhouse and not order, well, steak. So I did what I felt I must. For all of you non-red meat eaters out there, this may not be for you but the way that Del Frisco’s prepares their prime cuts is pure magic. The plus side? you can eat half and take the rest to work the next day and make the break room your (insert your own word here). We split the Filet Mignon (12 oz.) and it was the perfect medium-rare. Case closed. We also had to try the Grouper with Cajun Lobster Sauce. Subbing out the heavy butter sauce for poached lobster, the calorie count took a dive and our taste buds hit a high note. Don’t miss either of these! We also asked for steamed Spinach Supreme and brussel sprouts on the side, both were accommodated.
Turn your side eye for this sweet finish. You were so good the entire meal. Splitting your portions, minding your bites. I never leave a meal without dessert though so forgive me for this tease of dessert. I give you Del Frisco’s famous Lemon Cake with fresh berries. Throwing napkin in 3,2,…
