Last week I mentioned my love of staying active and as healthy as possible. This week, that trend continues however there’s a twist. By staying active, this week I mean actively participating in having a few drinks and the healthy part? Well each of these featured drinks have a healthful punch that makes them good for you…r relaxation time after a long day (or workout, let’s be honest). See what I did there? Let’s continue.
Clockwise from the top left: The Zanger (AF+B in Fort Worth), Family Heirloom (Abacus), Beetlejuice (Shinsei), Garden Smash (Cook Hall), The ‘Bright Eyes’ left in picture (True Food Kitchen), Double Under and HG Mule (HG Supply Co)
In Fort Worth, AF+B Bar Manager Abe Bedell is stirring up some sparkling sips with a cocktail appropriately called ‘The Zanger’. Make sure to ask for this drink by name that includes a house made Kombucha. The fermented tea has been around for more than 2,000 years and has a rich anecdotal history of health benefits like preventing and fighting cancer, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases. After a big meal in Cowtown, this sounds like the perfect way to cap the night.
Jordan Gantenbein is your go to man behind the bar at Abacus in Uptown Dallas, and the ‘Family Heirloom’ cocktail will be sticking around for a while. With a healthy combination of muddled heirloom tomato, fresno pepper, basil and lime with gin it’s as close to a juice bar as you are gonna get! Quite delicious too.
When the veggies are in the vodka, how can you go wrong? Beet infused vodka takes center stage in this ‘Beetlejuice’ cocktail from Shinsei. The vodka is paired with vanilla bean, fresh lime and hopped grapefruit bitters to create a tasty cooler that you can feel good about, while you still have feeling.
Hockey and Basketball players, runners and more. In the heart of a activity fueled Victory Park neighborhood, Cook Hall at the W Dallas Victory is serving a spiced sipper that is sure the have you up and running in no time. Gin meets lime juice, cilantro, cucumber and fresno chili before being muddled into a refreshing cocktail.
I was skeptical when I saw a menu full of alcohol at True Food Kitchen. I thought “how can you possibly have a well balanced meal and a drink too?” Oh, how wrong I was. Face meet the ‘Bright Eyes’. A bountiful mix of pear, ginger, beet, pineapple and turmeric already in place before you add your choice of alcohol. That particular evening, I went with a delicious organic vodka and the deal was sealed.
Greenville avenue is known for being particular health conscious. With a Trader Joe’s steps away, HG Supply Co knows it’s audience well. The HG Mule (Effen Vodka, Fresh Lime, Turbinado Syrup, Ginger Kombucha) is always a great choice when being conscious of consumption. You can’t go wrong with the Double Under either made with beet infused Dulce Vida organic tequila, fresh lime and rosemary syrup. Just don’t have too many or you’ll find yourself double under the table calling Uber.
Cheers to your health!
