First Look: Third ‘Mesero’ Location Serves Centralized Comfort

From the highly trafficked Inwood and Lovers Ln corridor, you can see Michael “Mico” Rodriguez‘s latest venture, Mesero.

The space flows open as soon enter into the door. Light and airy from dining spaces meet a cushioned stool lined bar which then goes into the walled dining area with plush brown lather banquette tables. Mico knew exactly what he wanted out of this third ‘evolution’ in his Mesero line up.

The feeling here? ‘Mexican food meets American spirit’, the cuisine? Interior Mexican. Mico says of this line up of dishes, “This particular menu whistles and caresses, but some sophisticated Mexican palates will say too spicy. I call the influence behind this restaurant from a design side ‘Ralph Lorenzo style’ sometimes.” You can certainly see that vision carried through from the use of different ceiling heights, wood and metal studded accent walls that bring a warmth to the room.

So, what is the menu like? From the sneak peek I got, it’s a whole new take on Mexican. New takes on classics were delicious, like Sopa seca de pollo which is essentially a vermicelli noodle based soup with touches of potato and avocado topped with a red chile and fried onion ring. One mention of Jidori chicken had me puzzled and is much more common in Japan, translated as “Chicken of the earth.” Favorites like Enchiladas Rojas and Enchiladas de camarones con salsa verde will play out nicely as familiar plates that have kept the customers coming. The menu covers everything else from The ‘Rose’ burger,a 12 inch strip and a variety of salads. Mesero features an open kitchen viewing area in the back that allows guests to peer into the window and see the ‘manitas’ or ‘little hands’ at work preparing the dishes. Desserts will continue to be sourced from a local bakery but one fun addition to the menu is a ‘Root Beer Float’.

Mico has certainly created a space and menu that welcomes all walks of Dallas, billionaires to shopgirls and everything in between. The official opening date for the third location is set for this Friday. Rodriguez says they will be expanding to Fort Worth and West Plano in the coming months.
