Cozily tucked into the newer parts of Bishop Arts District, Stock & Barrel is becoming a mainstay on the Dallas dining scene. Chef Jon Stevens has created a comforting menu that composes itself well with it’s surrounding. A rustic dining room filled with dark woods, reclaimed metal seating and wall linings is large enough to seat the surging crowds yet still allows a table of 4 to speak without yelling. We began with cocktails, naturally. You’ll see many locally crafted beers, great American whiskeys, seasonally crafted cocktails and a well balanced, value oriented wine list. “The Obligation” takes mandarin infused reyka vodka, st. germain, prosecco, lemon and zip code honey to shake up a smooth, soothing libation with a zing. Order one before dinner to warm up!

Jon Stevens put a ton of thought into this restaurant. “I chose Bishop Arts not only because of the people and sense of community in the neighborhood, but also because it has truly become Dallas’ most exciting dining destination,” Stevens says. For the menu, expect to see various fish, fowl, and game from the rotisserie and custom wood fire grill, as well as house made pastas and dumplings. Finally, Chef Stevens has dedicating an entire section of the menu to the art of, his favorite comfort food, fried potatoes. On this particular chilly evening, the special Short Rib pot pie and Diver scallops hit the spot. Don’t you dare miss the Toffee Croissant Bread Pudding either! This beauty comes with butter caramel ice cream & salted english toffee. Goodness gracious it was amazing! My only qualm about the meal? The service can be a bit spotty at times due to large dinner rushes. Luckily the food, drinks and atmosphere more than make up for the lack of attention at times.
