Do Good and Give Back Next Week

Here are two great chances to give back in style next week.

Fashions First Down:

“A fashion journey awaits on the runway featuring The Dallas Cowboys wives and a view of jets. Now would be a good time to put on your aviators. Oh, and make sure the rest of your outfit has at least one or two knockout statement pieces, that’s if you want to keep up with the Joneses and sit front row with the models’ husbands (aka. The Dallas Cowboys). So chic.

The bottom line is, everything in the universe has its moment, and a charity fashion show highlighting the designs of Nha Khanh modeled by members of the Dallas Cowboys Women’s Association and styled by Kristin Smith with the CLAAD life is very “now.” The evening will be everything you need it to be: A haute fashion show produced by Jan Strimple, music by DJ Andy Austin and the David Khan Band. Gourmet food and beverages, along with high profile live and silent auction items.

Chaired by Candice Romo, wife of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, and emceed by KXAS NBC 5 News Anchor Meredith Land this luxury evening full of fashion, football and fun will be one of the metroplex’s most exclusive charity tickets to obtain!

All proceeds will offer a brighter future for women and children in crisis through support of Nexus Recovery Center in Dallas and The Gatehouse at Grapevine. For ticket information, click here and use the code MATCHPOINT for a 20% discount!

Going the extra mile as Dallas Ambassador Chef for this year’s EAT (RED) DRINK (RED) SAVE LIVES campaign, nationally-acclaimed chef John Tesar has announced an unprecedented five consecutive fundraising dinners at Knife at The Highland Dallas June 1-5. The series will kick off with Austin BBQ legend and recent James Beard Best Chef: Southwest award winner Aaron Franklin, cooking for his first time ever in Dallas. The week will continue with a remarkable list of renowned chefs including Alex Stratta (Las Vegas), Naomi Pomeroy (Portland), Tim Rattray (San Antonio) and Kris Morningstar (Los Angeles).

“I’m humbled that five of my favorite chefs have found the time to come cook with me for this important cause,” Tesar said. “It’s going to be epic.”

Each exclusive dinner, with a one-night-only special menu, will take place in a specially decorated event room at The Highland Dallas, and be strictly limited to an intimate 40 seats, with ticket prices set at $150, inclusive of beverages and gratuities. Each dinner begins at 7 p.m. and half of each ticket price will go directly to EAT (RED) DRINK (RED) SAVE LIVES. To reserve your seat and purchase tickets, call the restaurant directly at (214) 443-9339 or visit knifedallas.com/events/eat-red-drink-red-save-lives(online purchasing fee does apply).

‘Big Night, Big Table’ Creates a Cozy Community in Bishop Arts

IMG_0342 IMG_0348 IMG_0355 IMG_0357 IMG_0362

What do you get when you pair 15 of Dallas’ top chefs, a 200 seater communal table and a beautiful evening? Big Night, Big Table. Last night, 200 guests converged on Bishop Arts to create an unforgettable evening for a great cause. The event was a family style dinner in the heart of Oak Cliff, featuring the Chefs of Bishop Arts. The cause? All proceeds go to Cafe Momentum and Reagan Elementary School.

We began with a Bacardi cocktail from Hattie’s served by Michael Martensen, and then we headed to the main drag to choose our seats. The table was elegantly set with vintage lighting pieces, white tablecloths and drinking vessels provide generously by Chefs for Farmers.

Six courses started with Rabbit Pâté with spicy mustard and frisée from David Uygur of Lucia. Each of the courses paired 2 of Bishop Arts’ best restaurants. Jon Stevens of Stock and Barrel served a smoked wagyu meatloaf that was incredibly moist and a bit spicy. Not pictured is a Texas road sign (literally) piled with brisket and sausage  from Lockhart Smokehouse.

Concluding the evening was an assortment from soon-to-open JOY Macarons, a delicious and not too sweet pumpkin pie trifle from Rush Patisserie and a special made Carrot Cake Chess Pie from Emporium Pies.

Cafe Momentum’s program teaches critical skills that allow youth to apply what they have been taught in pre-release programs in a safe, real-world environment of nurturing accountability. Cafe Momentums Executive Director, Chad Houser, will be featured on the Rachael Ray Show this Thursday, October 30th!

Burgers & Burgundy

diffa-burgers-and-burgundy-dallas-2013-16-2

Sit back and relax as John Tesar leads a bevy of talented local chefs in a burger throw down. The burger tasting plates are paired with the Burgundy wine of their choosing. The best part of the whole occasion? It’s for an excellent cause. DIFFA Dallas, whose mission is to serve those affected by AIDS and HIV across North Texas, is the main benefactor. Sip, bite and carry on my friends.

Get Your Roar On!

KP

I’ll admit it, I’ve got a soft spot for careless pop music that makes your feel good. Last night, I took in what can only be describe as a fantastic assault on all senses as Katy Perry brought her Prismatic Tour to Dallas for a two-night engagement. A mix of pyrotechnics, vocalizations and terrible cat puns made for an enjoyable evening for the masses. The songstress noted the stop was ‘sold out’ but I managed to find you a couple last minute tickets to impress the KP lover in your life.

Saturday

Where There’s Smoke

With wrecking balls removed from Downtown Dallas, folks are heading into the city center for an all star lineup of Texas’ best pitmasters, chefs and bands serving heapin’ helpings of ear candy and good grub. The BBQ tasting ticket includes BBQ tastings from 2–5pm. Step right up and they’ll hand you a basket of smoked goodness. VIP ticket holders can get the party started an hour early at 1pm, plus admission into the VIP area through out the concert. The bands hit the stage starting at 2:30 and continue until 10pm. BBQ vendors will be selling their smoked goodness after 5pm. Concert tickets are ONLY $22 and get you in the gate at 5pm.

Howdy, Folks

Have those pictures of fried goodness been wreaking havoc on your state of mind this week? Fret no more. The State Fair of Texas is the perfect Saturday staple with hundreds of daily shows, a nightly parade, evening dancing water and laser show, 15 interactive and educational kid’s activities, the largest new car auto show in the Southwest and daily concerts on the Chevy Main Stage. Speaking of, Kool & The Gang plays on Saturday for free! Yep!

Sunday

Soulful Brunching

brunch

What’s that? You feel like you’ve been a bit sinful over the weekend. I’ve got just the cure for those feelings. Start your fall season with GRAMMY®-Award winning star Kirk Franklin and House of Blues as part of its’ year-long 20th Anniversary Celebration to producing a dazzling transformation of Gospel Brunch, the club’s legendary dining and live music show. Unfamiliar with how Gospel Brunch goes down? Before and during the show treat yourself to an amazing all-you-can-eat buffet featuring breakfast favorites plus tender carving stations, southern specialties and mouth-watering desserts. Don’t miss the signature chicken and waffles! And if you’re in the mood you just might end up on stage waiving a napkin and dancing off some of that delicious cuisine! You’re welcome!

Every year the Cancer Support Community North Texas‘ Young Leadership Board puts on a benefit called ‘Rock The Red Door’.

Cancer Support Community is a place where people with cancer and their families and friends learn to live with cancer, and hopefully beyond it. It is their lifeline to strength, hope and guidance. Celebrate Uptown This Thursday

What do The Rustic, Cory Morrow and a bunch of Dallas music and food lovers have in common? Well, for starters you’ll find them partying the night away this Thursday as the annual ‘Celebrate Uptown‘ event hits our city. Known for being one of the top events of the year for Uptown residents and their neighbors, ‘Celebrate Uptown’ topped themselves with the line up this year. For just a steal of a ticket at $20, you can settle in at The Rustic and watch Texas country artist Cory Morrow with special guests J Charles & The Train Robbers and Hazardous Dukes play for hours.

There is always a great cause behind the event and this year is no different. With all proceeds going to the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority and The Friends of the Katy Trail, you can sip your drink and jam on knowing you’re doing good!

There’s also a VIP ticket option as well that includes a premier Stage view & seating Area, Texas Fare inspired hors d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner and 3 Free Drinks. Those go for $75, but again it’s all for a good cause!

See you Thursday!
