Insta Fit for Fall

Unlike some, I don’t keep my favorite ways to stay healthy and fit a secret. I am all about sharing the wealth on health on social media and with you. So as I look ahead to what some consider the most high calorie and unhealthy season of the year (aka my favorite time to indulge) I thought I’d share some of my favorites right now.

For fitness, I always try to cross-train during the week to keep my body guessing to intensify the workout. Of course, my old faithful friend Flywheel Sports has been my go-to for years. The different trainers provide a variety of rides and workouts that maximize the 45 I spend on the bike!

Another favorite that has been fun to try recently is Beyond 500. This particular workout method combines three disciplines to create the most efficient and balanced workout system: Pilates-inspired functional movements, cardio intervals, and strength exercises. I always feel winded after but stronger because of the work I put in.

Fuel Up? Look no further than my favorite good-for-me meal on the go, Snap Kitchen. Whether I am grabbing a juice to refuel during a long day or after a workout or getting a nutrient packed meal, it’s always a good choice. Lately I have been digging on the Far East Tumeric juice and one of their tasty snack packs.

When I am at home, I love whipping up a green salad with a protein and a flavorful dressing. It’s the 2 minute way to fill up with something that will keep you full of energy and away from the fast food! Homemade doesn’t have to mean hard.

Treat yourself and your skin to something extra special this fall. Kiehl’s legendary product line keeps your skin glowing, soft and healthy throughout the year. Guys be sure to stock up on my favorites for the fall season. Products like the oil eliminator, facial fuel and the creamy avocado eye treatment will get you ready in no time.

Cutting Up with Artists + Architects Salon

It’s not often I am offered an invitation to come into a renowned salon and sit in the chair of one of the stars of the industry. You’d better believe when I was asked to visit Artists + Architects Salon, I immediately said yes. I try to change up my grooming and hair routines as often as I can because it’s a part of my look and it’s always fun to try something new!

Artists + Architects Salon recently soft opened in Turtle Creek Village, launching its masterfully crafted salon concept in Dallas, which fuses superior customer service with cutting edge hair design to create a space that encompasses both sophistication and innovation. Recruited by Artists + Architects Salon to serve as its Creative Director, Derek Sansone oversees the implementation of the visual aesthetic and the establishment of the brand standard for the concept. Sansone, a former Frederic Fekkai New York alum, brings over 20 years of experience in hair design to Artists + Architects Salon. Drawing inspiration from his time working at Frederic Fekkai and apprenticing at Bumble & Bumble, he incorporates extraordinary technical expertise with originality to match the level of expectation for Artists + Architects Salon.

The space is absolutely beautiful and I appreciated the quirky accents and appreciation for detailed working stations. Derek began my experience with a consultation. Having worked in some of the worlds top salons, he know exactly what he’s doing when talking to clients. I told him about my prior hair styles and he recommended something totally out of left field and I was into it.

I walked out of the salon a happy guy and felt like I could take on any season with the help of my new friends from Artists + Architects! Thanks for an amazing experience and the soft opening invite!

Father’s Day Finds

It’s easy to get caught up in the fuss of finding the perfect Father’s Day gift for the old man (sorry, dad) in your life. We’re just a few days from the holiday and pops is gonna expect the same old celebration. Grill out on the deck, get some power tools, nap in the recliner and open your last minute greeting card purchase. That’s where I am stepping in to intervene before things get really basic. Dad deserves better, and you know it. That’s why I’ve rounded up my best events, goodies and celebratory tips for you, dear reader.

Eats & Drinks

As you begin to think of gifts for good ol’ Dad, keep in mind a father as rare as yours deserves whiskey equally as unique. Go with a libation that’s sure to say “Thanks, Dad!” while he sips away the start of his day. The Old Fashioned or Whiskey Smash are great cocktails to whip up in honor of this monumental occasion with America’s native spirit.

Going out? Eureka! in Uptown is featuring a cocktail special for Father’s Day starting on Thursday, June 18 through Sunday, June 21. The “Go Ask Your Mother” Old Fashioned features Old Overholt Rye Whiskey, Corsair Triple Smoke, a house-made Stone Smoked Porter simple syrup, bitters, and orange ($12).

Chances are he’s hungry after a bout of beverages so do what I do and carb up. With tacos, that is.

Head to La Ventana, with locations in both Addison and Dallas, tell them I sent you and order Dad a trio of loaded tacos he isn’t soon to forget. My favorites? Bistek, Carnitas and Pastor. Please and Gracias.

Another great joint to grab a bite with your old man, Table 13. This old-school style steakhouse is offering a $40 3-course meal for Father’s Day that includes an 18 oz Porterhouse and Surf & Turf. Deal of the day!

Every Dad loves a good grooming session, it’s a fact. The Boardroom is one of my favorite places to meet my grooming needs. Deck Dad out with a trifecta of services the salon is setting up for his special day. They include:

Pampering Perfection: MiniLuxe Dallas

Grammy Guys Sing in Style

All eyes were on the recording industry last night as the Grammy Awards took center stage. Before all the star performances and awards could be given away, the red carpet rolled out and so did the dapper styles. I’ve given a lot of thought to my top picks for the best dressed men last night, and I hope you’ll choose to agree or rightfully disagree with the ones that rose above the rest.

Sam Smith swept the ceremony with an allotment of prizes for his soulful ‘In the Lonely Hour‘ album. Smith continues to be a favorite of mine and last night he went classic with three different suits (the white tie he wore for his entrance; the cherry red he wore to receive his first award; and the blue plaid he finished up with). John Mayer and Childish Gambino followed suit (pun intended) with classic tux looks as well, Childish Gambino takes my favorite though with a sock-less ensemble.

Aloe Blacc played into a trend I saw across the lot of outfits last night, blue. A deep shade of the cool color made his entire look pop and the hat was a classy tip to complete the act. Usher was also up for consideration last night with his greyscale get up. The R&B star rocked a Calvin Klein suit, Louis Leeman Paris shoes and Lorraine Schwartz bling.

My all-time favorite look of the evening though? Drum roll because this got a lot of yes and a few no.

Nick Jonas.

The youngest Jonas rocked a grey, canary and black paid suit courtesy of Versace. His slick backed hair, clean white shirt and simple watch accessory tied everything together and made me a believer in stepping outside the norm to make a statement. Well done, Nick.

Fright Night Friday with Dear Clark

It’s all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus after all. This past weekend, I went under the skilled hand of Bria from Dear Clark Hair Studio for a masked makeover. It was a full moon evening when I sat down in the chair and handed over my inspiration. I told her ” I want to pull off a classy ‘Day of the Dead’ look”, and she was off. Dear Clark has been providing makeup for Halloween costumes for the past 2 years, and I knew it would be my first choice when I decided to go all out.

Halloween is decidedly my favorite holiday behind Christmas. I love the opportunity to eat all the candy you can muster while donned in your best ghoulish get up. Professional Halloween makeup is perfect for that party where you want to make the exact right statement and ensure you look different — and a zillion times better — than the rest!

Be sure to plan ahead with these tips:

Dear Clark will host a spooky Halloween art event on October 30th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Artwork from six unique artists will be on display and available for purchase during the event. A portion of proceeds from art and Dear Clark product sales will go back to ALS.

The event will be complete with music by DJ Jordan Bell, food from Easy Slider, drinks, a performance by the Danielle Georgiou Dance Group, a Costume Contest, and lots of photos!

Recently, I was treated a sampling of the Niven Morgan “For Him” line and I may never stray again. My affinity for Niven Morgan started shortly after I received a large version of their ‘Paris’ scented candle a couple of years ago. Soon, I had 2 and then the whole house was filled with Niven Morgan. It takes a keen sense to construct the scent profiles that will create a trans-formative experience in the home or space where it is shared. The ‘Paris’ scent did just that every time it was lit.
