Midnight Rambler Pours on the Charm

I first told you all about Midnight Rambler about 4 months ago. The craft cocktail salon, now open in the basement of The Joule Downtown Dallas, is the conceptual brainchild of Chad Solomon & Christy Pope of Cuffs & Buttons

With a kick-off soft opening last week, the newest addition to the Dallas craft cocktail scene is certainly setting itself apart. Meander into the lobby of the Joule, sharp turn left, 2 flights of stairs down and you’re greeted by a hostess who escorts you to a table. Now while I am not at all a fan of the ‘reserved’ table bar scene in Dallas a la Smyth, this place pulls it off sans douchey undertones. A throwback DJ table meets a long bar with old school soda water taps that are not yet functional, and it’s all tied together by not one but two bars (one semi-private). Sexy two and four-seater tables, comfy booths and bar top options are available. The menu is focused and thoughtfully broken down into cocktails, sparkling cocktails, shots, large version punches, wine, sherry, homemade soda and beer. Prices vary from $12-15 for a cocktail to $100 for an 8-person punch bowl. Hungry? CBD Provision inspired snacks like the whole hog cuban, smoked fish dip and ice cream sandwich are a few to choose from.

Midnight Rambler is open nightly from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Joule Goes Underground with ‘Midnight Rambler’ Cocktail Salon

Don’t know how this one slipped past my radar. The Joule Hotel is finally filling the basement with a ‘craft cocktail salon’ called Midnight Rambler. Guessing no relation to the Rolling Stones hit. The former PM Lounge space is being transformed into a swank subterranean speakeasy that’s sure to come with an air of high society. Recently, diners at the hotel restaurant CBD Provisions have been privy to testing out new ‘bar snacks’ like pretzel bites with house made mustard dipping sauce (pictured below).

After doing a little bit more digging, I was able to find a couple job listings (host, bartender and manager) that give a little more insight into what is in store for Midnight Rambler. Here’s what I found:

Midnight Rambler, a craft cocktail salon, is opening in the basement of The Joule– a stylish and arts driven boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Dallas, TX. Conceived and operated by Chad Solomon & Christy Pope of Cuffs & Buttons. This is an exceptional opportunity for hosts who are outgoing and passionate about hospitality. Midnight Rambler will offer extensive training in a dynamic and creative environment. If you see yourself in the following description, Midnight Rambler would love to meet you…

 ‪· Energetic, engaging, intellectually curious

‪· Able to take direction and adhere to standards

‪· Committed and passionate about on-going trainings, education, and continued elevated performance

What’s your favorite cocktail and why?”

There you have it. I’m not quite sure it’s much of a step up from the ‘Mirth & Refuge’ name it held before, but with a early August projected opening there isn’t much room for change now.

Dallas Art Fair Offers an Eyeful at The Joule

Last night a list of lucky guests and Dallas friends of the arts were treated to windy weather fun in Downtown Dallas. The Joule Hotel hosted a cocktail party in celebration of the sixth annual Dallas Art Fair at the Eye sculpture by Tony Tasset.

The event capped a week long list of art centric happenings that proved that Dallas truly is a center for fans of the artistic movement. Though it was a windy night, locals and fashionable visitors alike showed up to celebrate in style.

Dallas’ art elite were treated to a DJ performance by artist Andrew Kuo, live graffiti painting by the Sour Grapes Collective, and a video projection of artist Jacolby Satterwhite’s Country Ball 1989-2012. The lively space and performances were punctuated by equally creative hors d’oeuvres including brisket doughnuts, miniature soba salads, and raw bar selections passed by cigarette girls, among others. Beverages of the night were true to The Joule’s elevated sensibilities with craft brews, toothsome wines, inspired cocktails, and miniature soda creams. Of course, Tasset’s Eye sculpture was the star of the show.
Guests were seen snapping selfies with the oversized iris throughout the party and painted models paraded around the partygoers almost camouflaged into the night.
The Dallas Art Fair concludes today and is located at the Fashion Industry Gallery at 1807 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX 75201 For more on tickets, click here.

Dog Days of Dallas

It’s undeniable that Dallas is a fast paced city where locals are picky about where they eat, shop, play and live. My dapper focus on providing you with inside information on how to be a Dallas dweller in the know has been a bit distracted lately. Admittedly, I’ve been slacking with you, my amazing readers and followers. Here’s the thing, when you find out why, it will all be worth it.

World, meet the newest addition to the Eat Style Dallas family. Oliver.

This 2 year old, Dachshund mix bundle of joy has been the all-consuming entity in my life for the past 2 weeks. And now, he’s ready to light up the Dallas puppy scene.

Because I’m a new dog owner, I thought I’d share with you a neighborhood crawl of some of Dallas’ top dog locales. Surely you’ll find these spots “woof” worthy.

Bishop Arts

With a strong canine focus, this area of South Dallas is the place to be for a breakfast with your furry friend. From Oddfellows to Enos, Lucia to Emporium Pies, the street side patio joints are about as dog friendly as they come.

Victory Park

What goes better with sports than puppies? Exactly. Wandering down the path of stores and restaurants that line Victory Park reminds me that this high energy neighborhood host some pretty good dog watching spots. From Neo Pizza to the pet friendly W Hotel & Residences and even Medina. Don’t forget to get your picture with the B&G signs while you’re wandering about!

119

West Village

Come see where Uptown pooches get their play on. Where cosmopolitan restaurant porches meets boutiques where mans best friend can roam, West Village has it all. Every business has a water bowl out front, and the owners encourage shoppers and diners to let their dogs enjoy as much as the patrons do. Warehaus (one of my favorite mens stores in Dallas) lets shoppers bring their pups in and the Malai Kitchen patio can’t be missed. Just a few of my favorites but the pet friendly options are endless.

126

Highland Park Village

Last but not least, the oldest shopping center in Dallas. With names like Tom Ford, Bistro 31 and Kiehls and Billy Reid on the list…this high profile dog  walk is certainly worthy of the list. Find yourself sipping champagne while your puppy relaxes under the shade of the many trees or take them inside the store to browse. Shopping with your dog is the new black.

So there you have it. The ultimate (and cutest, and best) excuse for my absence from the world of keeping Dallas dapper.  Forgive me? Yes? I thought you might.

Dallas, I’m back.
